Magazine review page construction
The first step I took when creating my magazine was adding my photos. I decided to use the same photo that I used for my film poster to create a recognisable image for the audience. As my target audience is girls aged 16-26 I felt the photo would be able to grab their attention in both constructions.
I added a white border around the two smaller photos to make them bolder against the main focal
image. I followed my original landscape plan and included all 3 photos in the same arrangement.
Following the borders around the photos, I felt an overall border was needed around the entire page.
Black was a neutral colour which helped frame the overall layout. I used the ‘square’ tool to ensure all
four sides were equal.
I inserted my main piece of text to work out the best placing for the title around the the 3 images used.
When constructing my review page by following my plat flans, the placing of the title worked well and
therefore I did not experiment much with placements. I stuck with a simple large font, I decided against
using bold text as it did not compliment the overall look I was trying to achieve. As well I believe by
having the text this reflects a more feminine look which reflects my target audience which is important
to consider when constructing media products. I also added a underline to add more emphasis to the
title due to the lack of bold text to ensure that it is eye catching to an audience member.

After adding my main text, I began to outline areas on the page to create a simple layout to follow
when adding further text. I wanted to start a colour scheme therefore I chose a royal blue which
similarly followed the codes and conventions of real life products such as ‘new films’

I then added the ‘quick breakdown section’. I decided to use a different font compared to the title to
add variation. I played around with multiple different fonts, I originally chose one which was hard to
read, therefore towards the end of the construction I changed it.

Along the bottom of the page, I then added a ‘keep in touch’ social media section to link the magazine
to other media outlets in this case Instagram, Facebook and twitter. This is usually seen in real media
products therefore I felt it was important to include in my own construction.

I then added the body of text which included the review. I stuck with the same font as the quick
breakdown section to keep an overall house style. Unlike my flat plan, I stuck to only 3 columns of text
so I was able to add other extras into the page.

I then added the logos and other media links to the page. I decided to keep the logo fairly small in
order to draw the majority of attention the the review itself. I believe the logo does not have to be huge
in order for readers to spot it. I used the black from the border and a white font in order for the text to
stand out.

The penultimate step I took was added a verdict area which highlighted to the audience the overall review of the short film. If the reader had little time or did not want to read the full review the verdict section gives a quick review where the audience can determine if they want to watch the film themselves.
The last part of the construction was added page numbers in order to indicate where the review is placed within the magazine. I created boxes the same colour as the boarder in order to create continuity and used white numbers in order for them to stand out.
