Target Audience #2

By linking my research of mental health to the target audience I have chosen has allowed me to figure out if this was the correct topic to focus my production around.

50% of mental health problems are stabilised by age 14 and 75% by age 24. I also found that 20% of adolescents may experience a mental health problem in any given year. Looking at these statistics mental health commonly affects people of a similar age to the target audience I have chosen through my research. This meaning that the audience I aim my short film at will be able to relate to some area of my plot.

Depression from a young age is becoming increasingly more common amongst young people due to loss and bereavement. Therefore creating a short film based on this topic is not only relatable but shows that more people are suffering, creating a re-assurance for the audience who view it.

Mental health is more of a social norm than it used to be. Many people are developing mental health problems throughout their life and not finding the help that is needed through doctors, counseling etc due to space available in these services. For some, even a short film which they are able to relate to the situation and events will give them some ease about what the are experiencing. They can feel as if they are not alone.

By chosing 16-26 year old’s I feel as if I’m reaching a variety of ages who commonly suffer from both depression and anxiety. Although this bracket of mental health also reaches other ages, I feel like focusing on this age will be more effective due to their use of the media today, which will be where my film is distributed
